John Denver Picture
John Denver was born with the name Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. on Dec. 31, 1943, in Roswell, N.M. One of America's most popular performers in the '70s, Denver's rise to fame began when he was "discovered" in a Los Angeles nightclub. He initially joined the Back Porch Majority, a nursery group for the renowned New Christy Minstrels, but, tiring of his role there, he left for the Chad Mitchell Trio where he forged a reputation as a talented songwriter.

Away In A Manger Lyrics

John Denver

(Traditional)
Away in a manger, no crib for his bed. The little Lord Jesus lay down his sweet head.
The stars in the sky looked down where he lay, the little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.
The cattle are lowing, the poor baby wakes. But little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes.
I love thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky and stay by my side till morning is nigh.
Be near me Lord Jesus, I ask thee to stay close by me forever and love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children in thy tender care and fit us for heaven to live with thee there.
Away in a manger, no crib for his bed. The little Lord Jesus lay down his sweet head.
The stars in the sky looked down where he lay, the little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.
